“What does community mean to you?”

Recently, I visited the Oakland Museum of California and saw this question posted on a whiteboard.

Below the question were answers, in the form of written sticky notes. Here’s a closer look at the answers.

People Coming Together

“People coming together.”

“People coming together from all backgrounds.”

Accepting

“Accepting that all we need is each other.”

“Working together and acting kindly so that you can create a place for people to thrive.”

“A group of people that can feel respected and heard [to].”

Proximity

“A place full of homes that has a home you belong in.”

“A group of people who are geographically close and share similar interests.”

“A group of people living in the same area coming together and working together so everyone benefits as well as those passing through.”

Togetherness

“We are all in this together! It takes a village!”

“A society of family and friends working together for the future.”
